  • The blue economy is the specific part of the economy that focuses on the sustainable use of oceans, seas, and coastal resources. It includes well-established sectors such as fisheries, coastal tourism, maritime transport, marine extraction of oil and gas, as well as the emerging offshore wind industry. In addition, other promising sectors such as blue biotechnology, deep-sea mining, and desalination are part of the blue industry.

    This course is designed for two categories of personnel: learners/ prospective employees gain an understanding of the blue economy job sectors, while career counselors enhance their professional toolbox with instruments for career guidance. 

    Course aim and objectives

    The scope of this course is to offer you the required details for planning and upskilling a career in the blue economy. The course includes general information, job categories and opportunities for training as well as tips for trans-sectoral employability. It is intended to give you an overview of the blue economy sectors:

    • Fisheries, aquaculture and processing
    • Coastal and maritime tourism
    • Maritime transport, ports and shipbuilding
    • Marine extraction of oil, gas and minerals
    • Offshore wind and ocean energy
    • Blue Biotechnology
    • Deep-Sea Mining
    • Desalination

    The course contains 9 modules, which intend to provide the needed knowledge and foster the development of skills and attitudes of the staff working with the blue economy.
